Large AI edits in the Word add-in used to come at a cost. When an edit was too big for Word’s own editing API, the add-in rebuilt the paragraph as plain text, so headings lost their bold, lists lost their numbering, and character formatting disappeared even on the words the edit never touched.
Those edits now keep the paragraph’s formatting intact. Kept text stays exactly as it was, deleted text is tracked as a deletion, and inserted text takes on the formatting of the text around it. Measured against Word’s own redlines, the result is on par with the small edits that always applied cleanly. Nothing changes in how you work: ask for the edit, review the tracked changes, accept or reject as before. Working with AI in Word is covered in the AI chat guide.
