Pactly E-Signatures: Long-Term Validation

In July, documents signed with Pactly E-Signatures gained an Adobe-trusted seal. This release finishes the job. Every seal now includes a timestamp from a trusted time-stamping authority, so the signing time no longer depends on anyone’s computer clock, and the PDF embeds the certificate and revocation data a validator needs. Acrobat reports the signature as LTV enabled: it will still verify years from now, after the signing certificate itself has expired.

Long-term validation on Pactly E-Signatures seals

Earlier signatures stay valid: If a counterparty signed the document elsewhere before it reached Pactly, the Pactly seal is now applied as an append-only update, leaving every byte the earlier signature covers untouched. Both signatures validate side by side instead of the earlier one being reported as altered.

A cleaner verification panel: Signature blocks and completion dates are now drawn into the page itself rather than layered on as annotations, which removes the “Annotations Modified” warning Acrobat used to show on Pactly-signed PDFs. A document that arrives already signed keeps the earlier approach so that signature is never disturbed.

As before, only a cryptographic fingerprint of the document is used to produce the seal. The document itself never leaves Pactly’s infrastructure. How the seal works and how to verify it are covered in the signature validity guide.
